Situation: Giuseppe Lovecchio, a consultant who specializes in supply chain operations and inventory management, says silo-based organizations make it difficult to network, share information and build trust between partners.

The Details: Customer-supplier relationships, both inside and outside of companies, must be built in a process-based organization, not in a silo-based organization. That, he says, is the first step needed to build a supply chain that works.

What it Means: In order to innovate, it is essential for organization to have trust, information sharing, communication and standardized technologies. In Giuseppe's opinion, to achieve streamlined information flows, companies must eliminate boundaries that break the flow by standardizing information technologies and best practices across all regions of the world.
