Yes, I agree with Jim and James on this on. However, with Multistep Supply Chains, it gets more complex. Both the measurements and understanding that some industries have a multilayer structure increase the complexity of risk management. Major Players are changing thier way of doing business, and just outsourcing the SC to 3pl /4pl is just not enough. The 3pl /4pl themselves need to be cognizant of the drivers behind these multiple layer/multistep industry sectors. I recently went thru a good article that helped me understand a little bit more of the 'rules /roles' . Hopefully, this be good primer for the community. http://www.hbs.edu/research/pdf/09-144.pdf
