In the 1980’s and 1990’s the digital supply chain in the entertainment industry consisted of single operators who handled multiple tasks. If we break up the tasks and we focus a person’s skills in the areas that they’re good at, then our quality control and quality assurance is much better. It also spreads the workload out because in a digital supply chain, particularly in digital media, you can do a number of metadata operations all simultaneously. Only recently have we been seeing the digital supply chain as an end-to-end process because now we are finally delivering content as media files—they exist as media files from the very beginning, and nothing goes back to traditional video tape.
